Icon Supply Engine Analyser for RRS Sir David Attenborough

Icon Research are delighted to be supplying a “Doctor” analyser to monitor the engine performance of Britain’s new polar research vessel RRS Sir David Attenborough.

The engine analyser will ensure the engineers will know the four main Bergen B33:45 engines are running correctly, efficiently and safely in the harsh environments the vessel will be deployed.

The RRS Sir David Attenborough was handed over to the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) by shipbuilder Cammell Laird on 27 November 2020.   The ship is expected to commence polar operations in 2021 after a period of intensive mariner training, testing and trialling the many technical, scientific and operational features and capabilities. The RRS Sir David Attenborough is one of the most advanced polar research vessels in the world.

Britain has been a world leader in polar exploration and research for over a century. Today, studying these remote regions is crucial in helping us understand changes in our planet’s oceans, marine life and climate system.
